The locomotives of type BR 13.18 existed of two sorts of former state railway locomotives, the Oldenburg S3 and the Oldenburg S5.2.

S3

The Oldenburg State Railways had only one mainline (Wilhemshaven-Oldenburg-Bremen), and here too were the locomotives of type P41 with driving wheels of 1750 mm diameter out-of-date. Because of that the Oldenburg State Railways ordered by Hanomag six steam engines S3 according to Prussian steam engines. These steam engines were deliverd in 1903 and 1904 and got the numbers: 151 up to 154 and 160 and 161. Also these steam engines got the names: WODAN, ODIN, DONAR, THOR, BALDUR and HEIMDALL. These steam engines were able to pull a train of 320 ton on a flatland with a speed of 75 km/h.

The DRG took over all six locomotives and gave them the indication BR 13.18 with the numbers: 13 1801 up to 13 1806. The locomotives were already put out of service in 1926 and 1927.

S52

The Oldenburg State Railways ordered of the more powerful verion of the S3, the S5.2 a couple of locomotives. These were delivered between 1909 and 1913 by Hanomag and got the name of Germanic goddesses. The locomotives were able to pull a train of 360 ton on a flatland with a speed of 80 km/h.

The DRG took over 11 steam engines and gave them the indication BR 13.18 with the numbers: 13 1851 up to 13 1861. In 1926 and 1927 all locomotives were set aside.
