BR 18.4/BR 18.4-5

In the second world war the steam engines 18 403, 18 413, 18 414, 18 426 and 18 474 had heavy damage and were not rebuilt after the war. The 18 434 stayed in Dresden after the second world war and was exchanged with the DR for the 18 314 (Bad. IV a). In the years after the war the locomotives ad service in the few long-distance trains which operated that time. In 1953 all locomotives up to 18 453 were set aside. A couple of years later all locomotives up to 18 478 were set aside, and in 1960 the DB took the last locomotives out of service.

In 1958 locomotive 18 451 was brought to the Deutschen Museum in München and is still exhibited there. The 18 508 is standing in the private museum of Krauss Maffei AG in München. And the 18 505 can be seen at the Eisenbahnmuseum Neustadt which belongs to the Eisenbahnfreunde in Neustadt. Another piece of steam history is the 18 478 which is in it's original condition and provided with the original Bavarian number 3673. The locomotive was took out of service in 1959 en was bought by a Swiss man in 1962. Since 1963 the locomotive is standing in the Bayerischen Eisenbahnmuseum Nördlingen and is still in running condition. Now and then the locomotive pulls special trains.
