Begin fifties, the DB had for passenger service 26 locomotives of class E 17. Some locomotives got as improvement of the cooling of the main transformer seven splits on each side. The E 17 110 was entirely modernized. The locomotives got on each side wider windows and the roofends were lengthened. The locomotive got also new pantographs of type DBS 54 and a series of improvements. Locomotive E 17 110 was put back in service in August 1961 from the Bw Augsburg.
