BR 220/221

In 1968, the locomotives were renumbered to the new UIC numbering scheme. The locomotives class V 200.0 became the class 220, and the locomotives V 200.1 became class 221.

From 1975 the locomotives 220 021, 220 023 and 220 060 and a majority of the locomotives BR 221 were painted in the colors ocean-blue beige. In the middle of the seventies the BR 220 was only maintained at the northern German Bw's Braunschweig (until 1976), Lübeck and Oldenburg. The Bw Lübeck and Oldenburg served as additional Bw, where until 1984 the last units BR 220 were taken out of service.

The class 221 (V 200.1) were stationed in Kempten, Lübeck, Villingen and Hamburg-Altona. In Kempten the maintenance of the BR 221 stopped in 1975, and in Villingen the maintenance stopped in 1977 when the Schwarzwaldbahn was electrified. Then the 221 locomotives were only stationed in the Bw's Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck, Lübeck and Oldenburg. From 1980 the locomotives were only stationed in the Bw Gelsenkirchen. From here the locomotives were in service in the Ruhr area. On 1 January 1982 was the last change in maintenance facilities, the locomotives moved to the Bw Oberhausen 1, without changing the service area. From 1987 the BR 221 locomotives were taken out of service, on 30 June 1988 the last 21 locomotives were taken out of service. Besides many locomotives which entered services on museumlines, many locomotives BR 220 and BR 221 were sold to railway companies outside Germany.
