Coaches Bauart 1935
A whole new type of coach was introduced in 1935. A coach which was more lighter, more rounded, more streamlined, more roomy and with bigger windows and which was better ventilated. The stand in of the entrance doors on the coach ends was further rounded. From now on all coaches which were built after 1935 were welded. Wagonfabriek Gebr. Credé & Co GmbH in Kassel had worked out this plan together with the Reichsbahn Zentralamt für Machinenbau. Credé delivered also the first coach, number 14 275 Köln (ABC4ü-35). This coach was also shown on the railway exhibition in Nürnberg on 8 December 1935, and in 1937 on the internation exhibition in Paris.
This coachtype was soon ordered in big quantities. Nevertheless the developement of coach construction was going on. The MITROPA ordered soon new dining and sleepingcoaches which were derived from the construction of Bauart 1935 coaches. The spirit of that time shows a preference for streamlined designs, which - after the experiment with the Henschel-Wegmann Zug - was the inspiration for the famous skirted coaches. The basis is the low air resistance. The urgency for faster trains is also the drive for faster locomotives. The maximum speed of some locomotive BR 03 was raised to 140 km/h. The first two prototypes of the skirted coaches were delivered in 1936 and 1938.
AB4ü-35
The first mass produced coaches Bauart 1935 with the new construction characteristics were these 35 first/second class coaches made by Linke-Hofmann-Busch, Gebr. Credé & Co and Wegmann. The coaches were of course of a welded construction.
