POST4m-a/26/POST4mf-bI/26

In 1953 the Deutsche Bundespost ordered a first serie of 42 prototype post coaches with a length of 26,4 meter. These coaches had no corridors bridges between the coaches. For a planned push pull service, three coaches were provided with cabins, but these push pull services were never realized. All 26,4 meter long post coaches had skirts and were suitable for speeds of 140 km/h. Almost all coaches had bogies of type Minden-Deutz. The coaches were all provided with post sorting rooms and large sliding doors on both coach sides.

POSTm/b

From 1954 the serie post coaches were delivered to the DBP. These coaches had now coach corridors as well. From 1958 there were double sliding doors. The coaches had the indication POSTm/b. Most of the coaches which were built between 1954 and 1958 doesn't exist anymore now. 50 coaches were rebuilt to luggage coaches type Dm 903, some other coaches were sold to clubs or were rebuilt to coaches for work trains. An important buyer of a number of these post coaches were the former East German Postal Services. They bought the coaches in the eigthies, and after the reunification of both Germanies, the old post coaches came again in the property of the DBP. At the end of the eigthies a couple of coaches which were built after 1958 were rebuilt with higher sidedoors. These doors are 20 cm higher so these coaches are easily recognizable by the heightening of the roofs near the sidedoors.
